Alex Bhathal serves as Managing Partner and Founder of RAJ Capital, the asset management platform of the Bhathal Family.
Alex is co-owner of Sacramento Basketball Holdings LLC, for which he serves as Executive Director. The firm owns the Sacramento Kings franchise of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Golden 1 Center and is the developer of the Downtown Commons entertainment and sports district in Sacramento and other subsidiaries.
Alex began his career at the Law Offices of Steinberg and Moorad, the esteemed Newport Beach-based sports agency and parlayed the experience into a position in the public relations department of the Los Angeles Rams. Asked to help grow and manage his family’s real estate holdings, he joined his father, Raj, to develop commercial and residential projects in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona.
After completing his graduate school studies, Alex joined RAJ Swim in 2000 and was named president in 2006. He led the largest private equity backed acquisition in the history of the swimwear industry. Alex and his sister, Lisa Merage, continued to run the company until they both exited the business in 2015.
The company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 and has been honored in the past by the Orange County Business Journal as “Family Business of the Year,” was the inaugural recipient of the Southern California Apparel Awards "Trendsetter of the Year" in 2014 and was the 2016 winner of the Reinventing Award by the Association for Corporate Growth.
Alex is active in several philanthropic and civic organizations. He is the co-founder and president emeritus of Next @ the Barclay, a philanthropic society of young professionals dedicated to supporting the performing arts. He is a national board member of Gen Next, is a member of the California Coast chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and has been recognized as a New Leader within the Seminar Network.
His hobbies include competing in triathlons, travel, art appreciation, and is a Boston Marathon finisher. He lives in Laguna Beach with his wife, Nicole, and son Marcus. He earned his undergraduate degree from University of California Los Angeles, his Master's in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, and is a current participant in the Presidents Program at Harvard Business School.
Lisa Merage serves as Co-Founder and Managing Partner of RAJ Capital. The Newport Beach based firm is the alternative asset platform of the Bhathal Family Office.
RAJ Capital was established after successfully selling the family’s 50-year old women’s swimwear business, RAJ Swim, to private equity. Lisa was CEO of RAJ Swim from 2006-2016.
In 2009, she launched LUXE by Lisa Vogel, an upscale and chic swimwear fit solution for the modern beach sophisticate, sold at luxury retailers such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. LUXE by Lisa Vogel was honored as the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim Presents “Designer of the Year” in 2012.
Lisa has appeared in numerous fashion and business television segments including appearances on CBS, E! Entertainment Television, NBC Inside Couture, and FOX’s Good Day LA. She has participated as a panelist for BUZZ: An Executive Women’s Think Tank, and awarded with the inaugural “Rising Leader” Award at Segerstrom Center’s Arts and Business Leadership Award Dinner. Lisa was a recipient of the 2015 “Women in Business” Award from the Orange County Business Journal and was the Keynote Speaker at the event in 2016.

With a philanthropic passion for both the arts and education, Lisa is involved with Segerstrom Center as an Angel of the Arts. Lisa also serves as a Trustee for her children’s schools, St. Mary’s IB World School, and Sage Hill High School. In 2015, she was awarded the “Altruist of the Year” Award from Modern Luxury magazine. She is also a board member of Gen Next, a nonprofit aimed at education reform, economic growth, and national security.
Lisa is a graduate of USC's Marshall School of Business. She is married to husband Richard Merage, and resides in Newport Coast with their five boys.
